Skin concern checklist
Organise the appearance, comfort and movement concerns you want to discuss. No measurements, severity scoring or personal details required.
Your discussion points
Select any concerns above to prepare for a conversation.
This checklist does not assign a severity score. Age, kilos lost and a pinch test cannot provide a validated diagnosis here.
What it does
It helps you put a name to what is actually bothering you. Loose skin after weight loss tends to cause three different kinds of problem: physical discomfort such as rubbing and rashes, practical limits such as clothing that will not sit right or exercise that hurts, and how you feel about the way you look. Each leads to a different conversation and sometimes a different clinician. Tick what applies and the checklist turns it into plain discussion points you can take to a GP, dermatologist or surgeon.
What it cannot do
It does not grade how loose your skin is, and it will not tell you whether a treatment will work. An earlier version of this tool gave a severity score. It was removed because no scoring method based on age, kilos lost or a home pinch test has been validated for this, so the number looked more precise than it was. Only an examination can tell loose skin from remaining fat, or a skin condition from friction.
How I'd use it
Fill it in before booking anything, not after a clinic has already told you what you need. If comfort or movement is on your list, lead with that at a GP appointment: it is the part that is most likely to be treatable now and most relevant to any Medicare criteria later. If appearance is the main concern, that is a valid reason too, and choosing not to treat is a valid answer.
